Car Health Data: From a Car's Diagnostic Port to Cloud-Based Analysis
We built an end-to-end system that records a vehicle's operating data throughout a drive, stores it securely, and helps drivers understand what happened.

Not just a snapshot or a trouble code: a time series of engine measurements that can be examined after the drive.
A Drive Tells a Story
Most drivers only think about their car's computer when a warning light comes on. Yet a vehicle equipped with OBD-II can provide useful measurements while it runs: engine speed, coolant temperature, throttle position, fuel trims and other values supported by the vehicle.
Car Health Data was created to capture those changing values over time, instead of requiring someone to watch a scanner while driving. Recorded sessions can then be reviewed and analyzed.
What We Built
Mobile applications
Native Android and iPhone applications communicate with a compatible Bluetooth OBD-II adapter and collect available vehicle data during a drive.
Cloud data collection
An HTTPS API receives timestamped readings and organizes them into individual driving sessions in a server-side database.
Analysis and reporting
Web-based views help users inspect recorded measurements and obtain AI-assisted analysis of patterns across a drive.
More Than a Mobile App
This project brings together Bluetooth device communication, native mobile programming, API design, relational databases, Linux cloud hosting, web interfaces, subscriptions, and AI-assisted reporting.
It illustrates the kind of complete system Net/Works develops: software that connects real-world devices to useful, accessible information.
One particularly interesting application is fuel-trim analysis, where changing measurements can reveal how an engine's fuel-control system responds during a drive.
